Solar + EV integration

If you've already got solar panels, or you're thinking about getting them, we can set the EV charger up to work with the system. That means you can charge the car from excess solar energy, which can bring your charging costs close to zero during the sunnier months. We've experience with GivEnergy systems and can configure smart charging to match solar generation and time-of-use tariffs like Octopus Intelligent Go. Getting the EV charger integrated with the rest of your home energy setup means you get more out of both, and less of your driving comes off the grid.

Installation process

A qualified electrician will come out, look at your property's electrical setup, talk through what you want and recommend suitable options - you won't get a salesperson. That means the advice is honest and technically informed by someone who actually understands the work. We'll give you a quote with no hidden costs. The install itself is typically a day's work with minimal disruption, and afterwards you'll get all the certification and a walkthrough of how to use the new charger. Our NAPIT registration means you'll get the proper electrical certification that may be needed by your insurance or when selling the property. Same approach as we apply with our electrical testing work.

Charger options

We supply and install a range of EV chargers depending on your needs. Standard 7kW units will fully charge most electric cars overnight; if you've got three-phase power, we can install faster 22kW chargers. Both tethered (with attached cable) and untethered options are available. All our chargers are OZEV grant-approved and include smart features for app control and energy monitoring. We're not tied to any single manufacturer, so we can recommend the best option for your specific vehicle and circumstances rather than whatever we happen to stock.

Financial benefits

Installing an EV charger at home is more convenient than relying on public chargers, and it's significantly cheaper too. Home charging is typically 50-90% cheaper than using public charging points (rac.co.uk). On a smart tariff like Octopus Go you can charge overnight at rates well below standard electricity prices, and if you've got solar, you can cut summer charging costs further still. EV-ready homes are also becoming more sought-after as more drivers switch to electric. As with our battery installations, time-of-use tariffs can knock a fair bit off your energy costs.
