The same person at both ends of your move
Moving house with an EV charger is awkward. You've got a working setup at the old place, you don't want to leave it behind, you don't want to pay for a brand-new charger and install at the new place, and you don't want one electrician to disconnect it badly at the old house and a different electrician inheriting the mess at the new one. The straightforward answer is to have the same person remove it from the old house and reinstall it at the new one, which is what Ashley does:
"Ashley was amazing! He removed my EV charger from my old house and came back and reinstalled at my new house... would highly recommend and wouldn't use anybody else now for any electrical work."
It's not a service most installers actively offer. We do, in writing, in customers' own words.
Why same-installer-both-ends matters
There are a few practical advantages. The disconnection is documented properly, with electrical certification for the work at the old property - which is a clean record for the buyer of your old house and for any future sale. When Ashley arrives at the new place he isn't reverse-engineering somebody else's wiring, and if anything doesn't work afterwards there's no question of "well, that's not my work" because all of it is his. Brand and tariff continuity is preserved too: your existing OZEV-grant-approved charger, your Octopus Go tariff configuration, your GivEnergy integration - kept rather than re-established from scratch.
Who runs the work
Renegade Solar is run by Ashley Merritt. He's NAPIT registered (66870), with around twenty years' experience as an electrician, and he's the person who quotes the job and the person who does it - no salesperson at the survey, no install crew you've never met, no project manager handover. For relocation work that's especially valuable, because the whole point of the service is one person handling both ends.
Why this is worth doing
A 7kW wall charger is a meaningful piece of kit, and replacing it brand new at your next house means buying the unit again and paying for another full install - relocating is typically a fraction of that cost. Beyond the money, if you're already running an Octopus Go tariff, an OZEV-grant-approved charger, or a charger that's integrated with your home battery setup, you don't necessarily want to start over - taking your existing kit means keeping the configuration you already know works.
What's involved
At the old property Ashley disconnects the charger safely and isolates the supply, removes the unit and any external cable runs, makes the consumer unit and any leftover wall fixings safe and tidy, and provides electrical certification for the work.
At the new property he surveys the electrical setup and parking arrangements, plans the cable route from the consumer unit to the chosen mounting point, installs with armoured cable rated for outdoor use where required, tests and commissions the unit, provides full NAPIT electrical certification, and configures the charger for your tariff and any home battery or solar setup at the new place.
If your new property's existing electrics aren't suitable for an EV charger - older consumer unit, capacity issues - he'll tell you up front and quote any necessary work separately.
Solar and battery integration at the new house
If your new property has solar or a battery already, or you're planning to add either, Ashley can integrate the charger as part of the move. He has experience with GivEnergy systems and can configure smart charging to match solar generation and time-of-use tariffs like Octopus Intelligent Go. He's also an Octopus Energy Trusted Partner and installs all of the Octopus chargers, so if you're switching brands as part of the move he can handle that too.
What if the new property needs supply upgrades?
Ashley will check during the survey. Most modern domestic supplies have plenty of headroom for a 7kW charger, but if you've moved into an older property or one with an undersized supply he'll flag it. He can typically sort upgrades, or recommend you speak to your DNO if needed.
What it costs
Each job is different - the cost depends on the cable route at the new property, whether the consumer unit needs any work, whether the original charger needs a service or any parts after removal, and the distance and scheduling between the two visits. You get a clear written quote up front with no hidden costs, and both parts of the job (removal and reinstall) can be quoted separately if the move timing means a gap between them.
