Lees - between town and moor
Lees sits at the point where Oldham starts climbing towards Saddleworth. The housing reflects that transition - you've got terraces and semis on the lower streets that are typical Oldham borough stock, and as you head uphill towards Springhead and Grasscroft, the properties get bigger, the views get better, and the roofs get more interesting.
The terraces around Lees centre suit 3-4kW systems. The semis and detached homes up the hill can take 4-6kW, sometimes more if the roof allows it. Average property prices around £240k mean solar's a proportionally significant investment - and the returns are genuine, with savings of £350-570 a year on typical energy bills.
Grants worth knowing about
Oldham Council runs an active LA Flex scheme - if your household income is under £31,000, you may qualify for grant funding towards solar panels, batteries, or heat pumps. The scheme runs until December 2026 but budgets may run out early.
On top of that, 0% VAT on domestic solar installations runs until 2027, and MCS certification (which we have) means your system qualifies for Smart Export Guarantee payments.
Heading towards Saddleworth

Fitted 3 batteries and Invertor very professional and friendly
From the start he was extremely friendly, knew what he was talking about and we agreed a price, he came did the job it took longer than he expected but he didn't complain he took his time to finish the job and came back next day to help set it up, I was thoroughly impressed
New solar & battery unit
Ashley and his team fitted a solar & battery unit to my house. They were all great. Polite, knowledgeable and efficient. All the work was completed in the agreed timescale. I would definitely recommend them.

Brilliant! Super professional, inspected the house, highlighted what needed doing the instead of leaving it there, they went out the way to hop to the shop get the part and install it so I could have the full report and everything sorted that day. 100 recommend!

Solar installation
We were looking for an off grid solar installation for our allotment. Renegade gave us a very good quote for the job and so we chose them. This turned out to be a great decision. Ashley did a site inspection and we tweaked the initial design to better suit our location. The installation went ahead on the planned date and the work was completed to a very high standard. We had some additional work carried out at the same time, some due to Ashleys recommendation (e.g. swapping our lighting for LED). I highly recommend Renegade as a trustworthy and competent company.

Renegade Electricals - Exceptional service!
In a word...outstanding! Renegade Electricals installed a 10 panel PV system with battery/inverter for us and we're extremely happy with it. Ashley was easy to deal with, reassuring and very professional providing full documentation and keeping us informed throughout the process. His customer service was exceptional and technical knowledge formidable. The panels, even in winter in the grim/grey north west, are producing impressive stats and its great entertainment watching the Alpha-ESS app showing the panels filling the battery up during the day, then discharging in the evening. RECOMMENDED!
