EICR Electrical Safety Inspections in Whitefield

We do EICR electrical safety inspections across Whitefield at £150 plus VAT for any domestic property, with the certificate issued the same day. We're just down the road in Prestwich - Ashley is a NAPIT-registered electrician (66870) and has been doing this around twenty years.

Whitefield properties

Whitefield has a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the centre and along some of the older roads, post-war semis around Besses o' th' Barn and Hillock, and newer developments on the edges. The older terraces commonly have electrical systems that have been extended in stages - what went in for gas lighting and basic demands has had a fair bit of modern electrical load added since, and the consumer unit and earthing don't always reflect that.

The terraces around the centre also tend to have smaller consumer units with limited capacity for additional circuits, which becomes an issue when someone's added an electric shower, a kitchen full of appliances, or an extension on the back. The EICR inspection picks up whether the electrical installation can actually handle what's being asked of it.

The post-war semis around Besses and Hillock tend to be more straightforward, but there's a reasonable amount of variation in what we find depending on whether they've been properly updated at any point since they were built. Some still have the original wiring with surface-mounted additions from the 1970s and 80s that don't meet current standards. The newer estates are generally the simplest installations, though even here we find issues where the original electrical work wasn't done to the standard it should have been.

Common electrical issues in Whitefield

The Victorian and Edwardian terraces frequently turn up electrical installations where the wiring has been extended over the decades without the consumer unit or the earthing being upgraded to cope. Consumer units that don't meet current safety standards, inadequate circuits for modern demands, and earthing arrangements that need bringing up to date are all common findings on an EICR in Whitefield. We also see properties where someone's upgraded the consumer unit to a modern board but left the original wiring in place behind it, which can give a false sense that the whole installation is up to date.

The post-war semis vary a fair bit - some have been properly rewired with a modern installation, others still have additions from the 1970s and 80s that don't meet current standards. The EICR tells you which situation you're dealing with.

For landlords

Landlords are legally required to have an EICR every five years and one for each new tenancy. Fines for non-compliance run up to £30,000, and the local authority can arrange remedial work and bill you for it. Existing tenants need the report within 28 days; new tenants get it before they move in. If the inspection turns up C1, C2 or FI issues, you've got 28 days to sort those. As a NAPIT-registered electrician based locally, Ashley can carry out the EICR and any remedial installation work that comes from it.

For buyers

Get an EICR before completion. If we find issues like an outdated consumer unit or earthing that needs bringing up to standard, you've got a basis for negotiating the purchase price, or grounds to walk away if the work needed is more than you bargained for. Whitefield's mix of property ages means the electrical installation quality varies considerably, and proper testing is the only reliable way to know what state the wiring is in.

What's included

The inspection covers a full visual check of wiring, sockets, switches and the consumer unit, then calibrated technical testing for continuity, insulation resistance, earth fault loop impedance and RCD operation. The EICR certificate and report are issued the same day, written in plain English. If we find work that needs doing, we can quote for that and schedule it in - as a qualified electrician and NAPIT-registered installer, the remedial installation work stays with us.

When we find issues

If the EICR turns up problems, we explain what's wrong, why it matters, and what the installation needs to bring it up to current standards. No inflated prices, no unnecessary extras - just an honest quote from a qualified electrician who's been doing this work in Whitefield for the best part of two decades. Remedial installation work gets scheduled within a month.

10

Brilliant! Super professional, inspected the house, highlighted what needed doing the instead of leaving it there, they went out the way to hop to the shop get the part and install it so I could have the full report and everything sorted that day. 100 recommend!

Solar installation

9.7

We were looking for an off grid solar installation for our allotment. Renegade gave us a very good quote for the job and so we chose them. This turned out to be a great decision. Ashley did a site inspection and we tweaked the initial design to better suit our location. The installation went ahead on the planned date and the work was completed to a very high standard. We had some additional work carried out at the same time, some due to Ashleys recommendation (e.g. swapping our lighting for LED). I highly recommend Renegade as a trustworthy and competent company.

Renegade Electrical Ltd are brilliant!

10

Renegade Electrical Ltd have been great. They replaced my electric fuse box really quickly and for a really reasonable price too. Would highly recommend 👌

Renegade Electricals - Exceptional service!

10

In a word...outstanding! Renegade Electricals installed a 10 panel PV system with battery/inverter for us and we're extremely happy with it. Ashley was easy to deal with, reassuring and very professional providing full documentation and keeping us informed throughout the process. His customer service was exceptional and technical knowledge formidable. The panels, even in winter in the grim/grey north west, are producing impressive stats and its great entertainment watching the Alpha-ESS app showing the panels filling the battery up during the day, then discharging in the evening. RECOMMENDED!
