Tram commuters — the smart setup
Shaw and Crompton's Metrolink stop with park-and-ride is perfect for EV owners. Charge overnight at 7.5p/kWh on Octopus Go, drive to the tram, take the 32-minute ride to Manchester city centre, come home to a charged car. Your daily commute costs pennies.
Compare that to driving the whole way (£675/year in petrol) or using public rapid chargers at the other end (50-80p per kWh — more expensive than petrol). The tram-and-charge approach wins every time.
Pair it with solar
Shaw's slightly larger properties often have room for a decent solar system. In summer, surplus solar easily covers the 4-5 kWh your daily drive to the tram stop uses. In winter, you charge overnight on a cheap tariff. Either way, you're spending a fraction of what you would on petrol.

We're an Octopus Energy Trusted Partner and fit their smart charger range — these schedule charging during the cheapest window automatically. Also fit SolaX and AlphaESS units that integrate with their solar and battery kit. Got your own charger already? We'll fit that too.

Solar installation
We were looking for an off grid solar installation for our allotment. Renegade gave us a very good quote for the job and so we chose them. This turned out to be a great decision. Ashley did a site inspection and we tweaked the initial design to better suit our location. The installation went ahead on the planned date and the work was completed to a very high standard. We had some additional work carried out at the same time, some due to Ashleys recommendation (e.g. swapping our lighting for LED). I highly recommend Renegade as a trustworthy and competent company.

In a word...outstanding! Renegade Electricals installed a 10 panel PV system with battery/inverter for us and we're extremely happy with it. Ashley was easy to deal with, reassuring and very professional providing full documentation and keeping us informed throughout the process. His customer service was exceptional and technical knowledge formidable. The panels, even in winter in the grim/grey north west, are producing impressive stats and its great entertainment watching the Alpha-ESS app showing the panels filling the battery up during the day, then discharging in the evening.
